'Mere Porteuse', 'Fictional Pregnancies' and 'Settlement'
Charlotte Lindsay is a painter and sculptor based in London and Cambridge. Her work is as heart wrenchingly honest as that of Louise Bourgeois. She has exhibited widely throughout Europe and is also the founder of BHVU (Basket House Village Universe), a gallery and artist collective. Lindsay's recent work has been particularly concerned with her own maternal roots and ancestral connections.
Mere Porteuse, Fictional Pregnancies and Settlement are ink drawings that explore fantasies and imaginings surrounding maternity. The drawings do not resent the longing for an actual child, but rather an exploration of the idea that making art is in fact a maternal act and that we develop deep connections with unrelated children, as well as with our very own ideas, dreams and art works.
